Bleeding Hearts Foundation is built upon the principle of instilling HOPE through SERVICE. Compassionate service strengthens the community by empowering those served and building optimism for the future. We believe that donating time and resources to provide meaningful service to those in need enhances and enriches the lives of all those who participate. Our goal is to create an interactive online community directed by participants (you) who know the people and causes most in need. Please post your ideas for service opportunities on this site, and for each project selected, we will work together to make the world a better place. Bleeding Hearts Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) charity exempt from federal and state taxes.
About the Founder
Tracy Barnes has had a passion for serving others throughout her life. She has visited areas of need after natural disasters in Joplin, MO. and Port-au-Prince, Haiti, she has visited orphanages around the world, and she has organized events at local homeless shelters to provide food and clothing. She developed an art and literacy program for children living at a long term homeless facility. Her inspiration for serving others from a young age came from her grandmother, Elva Barnes (pictured). Tracy saw that her grandmother had a unique ability to see the need in others and was always willing to devote any resources she had to service. Because the acts of service were simple and happening all the time, Tracy often did not notice the effect her grandmother had on others, but when her grandmother later passed away, Tracy saw and heard from hundreds of people attending the memorial of the great impact she had on others. Now, Tracy wants everyone to experience service in their lives. She has seen that even in the darkest places, hope has changed lives forever, and it's that hope, more than anything else, that each person can share.
