South Valley Services (SVS) is a domestic violence shelter located in Utah, that houses both females and males who have left abusive relationships. Currently there are 25 female residents at the shelter, trying to rebuild their lives and their independence. Financial independence, is typically one of the first steps toward starting a new path apart from the abuser. Many of the women at the shelter left their homes with minimal possessions, in an attempt to leave the abusive relationship safely; therefore, they had very little or no professional clothing. The women at SVS have to either work or actively seek employment, so professional clothing is extremely needed. Bleeding Hearts Foundation partnered with SVS to empower these women by helping them become financially independent through vocational support, thus facilitating independence in other domains. Bleeding Hearts Foundation asked for donated women's professional clothing and portfolios/planners. Our generous volunteers went above and beyond to complete this project. We received over 200 items of professional women's clothing in various styles and sizes to meet the needs of the residents. On top of the professional clothing donations, we were able to provide 25 resume portfolios/planners and a free resume/cover letter editing service to each resident. Bleeding Hearts Foundation volunteers set up racks of clothes, in which the residents shopped through for two to three outfits. The remaining clothing was donated to SVS for future residents. SVS staff and residents were overjoyed by the donations and gave their many thanks!
