Bleeding Hearts Foundation has partnered with a women's and men's domestic violence shelter, South Valley Services (SVS) located in Utah. Currently there are 25 female residents at the shelter, trying to rebuild their lives and their independence. With your help, we hope to empower these women by helping them become financially independent, thus facilitating independence in other domains. Financial independence, is typically one of the first steps toward starting a new path apart from the abuser. Many of the women at the shelter left their homes with minimal possessions, in an attempt to leave the abusive relationship safely; therefore, they have very little or no professional clothing. The women at SVS have to either work or actively seek employment, so professional clothing is extremely needed.
So, here is the plan! Bleeding Hearts Foundation is collecting professional women's clothing (shirts, pants, skirts, dresses, blazers, jackets, belts, shoes) of all sizes to provide appropriate outfits for interviews and the workplace. If you have items to donate, please email bleedingheartsfoundation@gmail.com with the pick up location and we will pick up donations during the day on February 28, 2015. If needed, the clothes will be ironed or dry cleaned, sorted by size, and brought to SVS on a clothing rack (boutique style!). Women in abusive relationships rarely get the opportunity to make choices for themselves, so they will be given the opportunity to pick an outfit of their choice.
We are not going to stop there! Bleeding Hearts Foundation hopes to provide all 25 women a portfolio, in which they can use to take resumes to interviews and keep work documents. Please consider making a donation towards the purchase of portfolios.
