Christmas is fast approaching. For most, it is a time of year to bring the family together and rejoice in the year's accomplishments. Many, however, will be apart from their families battling their addiction to drugs and alcohol. According to SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) 22.7 million individuals in the United States attended drug and alcohol treatment last year. The number of individuals suffering from drug and alcohol addictions are so catastrophic that nearly every person knows someone who has struggled with addition or has struggled with it themselves.
So here's how to help:
Bleeding Hearts Foundation is excited to give the gift of HOPE this Christmas to 11 men attending an inpatient drug and alcohol treatment program in Eden, Utah. This is our third year providing letters and one of our volunteers' favorite projects. We are asking for letters of ENCOURAGEMENT, SUPPORT, and HOPE. Our goal is to reach 100 letters by December 21st, 2015. Two volunteers will be selected to deliver the letters, along with stockings and pizzas for a holiday party to celebrate their success in sobriety, on December 23rd. Please click on the volunteer tab if you are interested in volunteering.
"When I'm feeling alone during the holidays, there is nothing better than to read the words of someone who is thinking about me. It gives me strength and fills me with love. It lets me know, I AM WORTH the work " -Former Valley Camp Resident
